Fresh New Year!
"To grow is to go beyond what you are today.
Stand up as yourself. Do not imitate.
Do not pretend to have achieved your goal, and do not try to cut corners.
Just try to grow."
Swami Prajnanpad

 Dear ,

New year,  like the new snow invites us to blaze a new trail - fresh tracks in the untouched powder.  What will 2010 bring?
I have big plans for this year!
Finishing my last certification at the Chopra Center University, I will become a Vedic Master and certified Perfect Health - Ayurvedic Lifestyle instructor ( read the article below on doshas). I am excited to start studying Ayurveda. Becoming meditation  instructor has been a transformational experience.  I can't wait to welcome the changes ( and benefits!) this new course has to  offer.
I am introducing a number of different workshops and classes this year - first one this February- Discover Asana: Get to Know This Posture. The concept is simple: three hours, one pose. Get to know the history, the myth and the symbolic imagery behind the pose; take it apart into it's building blocks -feet, legs, pelvic, torso, shoulders -  to figure out how each piece works on it's own and in relation to the others; put it all back into practice, add the energy components - bandhas, chakras, nadis and discover rhythm and wholeness of the posture.  February's asana -Downward Facing Dog.
I am planning to take more time off - taking better care of myself is my New Year's resolution. Being a mother and a business owner at times can feel like a game of musical chairs - only backwards. Ask me how I did come December!

Cheers,
Julia

What's your dosha?
According to Ayurveda, a natural healing system that originated in  ancient India, individuals can be categorized into three mind-body constitutions known as doshas.
These three energies of nature are known as VATA, PITTA  and KAPHA.Depending on your dosha, you will benefit from different foods, colors, aromas, sounds and body care products to maintain emotional and physical balance.
What's your dosha?
VATA tend to be thin, light and quick both in thoughts and actions. Change is constant part of their lives. When balanced, they are creative, enthusiastic and lively. When imbalanced, they might develop anxiety, insomnia or irregular digestion.
PITTAs are muscular, smart and determined. When they are balanced, they are warm, intelligent and good leaders. Out of balance they become critical, irritable and aggressive.
KAPHAs have a heavier frame, think and move more leisurely and are stable. In balance, they are calm, sweet and loyal. When imbalanced, they can gain weight, become congested and are resistant to healthy change.
Harmony between body, mind and environment is the basis of happy and healthy life. Everything we ingest through our five senses influences our physiology and our dosha. Creating a dosha balancing daily routine ensures optimal emotional and physical well being.

Watch for new Ayurveda and dosha - balancing classes and workshops coming to Satori Yoga Studio this spring!

Law of Giving and  Receiving

In this month's group discussion we talked about the Law of Giving and Receiving. I am still working on the blog post for this class; in the meantime I would like to leave you with these quotes:
"The universe operates though dynamic exchange...giving and receiving are different aspects of the flow of energy in the universe.
And in our willingness to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the universe circulating in our lives."
                                                                                   Deepak Chopra
"All this is full. All that is full.
 From fullness, fullness comes.
When fullness is taken from fullness,
Fullness still remains."
                       The Isha Upanishad

"Then the well spoke to me.
It said: Abundance is scooped from abundance
                                                      yet abundance remains"
                                                                           Anne Sexton
