I stumbled into yoga by accident, trying to resolve an ongoing back pain... but my results weren't exactly typical: the more I yoga-ed, the more I hurt. Too bad that by then I've fallen head over heels in love with yoga...
The real improvements came when I started to focus very specifically on the movement of hips and pelvic girdle. It wasn't a fast solution - more like 2 steps forward, 1 step back - but over a few years of consistent retraining, pelvic pain, sciatica, sore knees, and that frozen patch on the side of my thigh all became the things of the past.
Those aches and pains still make their nasty appearance once in a blue moon.... But now, whenever I'm stressed or feel a touch of a flare up brewing, I immediately re-focus my attention on refining movement.
