Q: Can you explain to me what Core Restore Yoga is?
The timing must've been just right because the answer practically wrote itself. For years I couldn't quite put the finger on how to explain what exactly it is that we do in Core classes (and I am a very wordy person!), so once this was written, I knew it had to be shared!
A: Over the years of teaching movement I've seen so many women struggle with low back, pelvic, SI joint and sciatic pain. Just as many of us have SO MUCH trouble finding functional movement in the hip girdle and recruiting core muscles.
A coincidence?
Having been one of these women, I don't believe so.
Life can be hard on a female body....
Hormonal fluctuations, pregnancies, deliveries, painful periods...
There's enough to wreck havoc with even the strongest core muscles, and most of us don't start from a place of strength.
Add to that the fact that not a whole lot of physiotherapists (or chiropractors) focus on helping us find more functional movement in the hips and better stability in the pelvis, and not a lot of personal trainers and fitness coaches are trained to work with folk who have pain.
Enter Core Restore.
Core Restore is a rehab movement practice that bridges this gap.
It helps women (mostly women - although some men find it just as beneficial) find better body awareness, and develop more functional movement patterns in the pelvic region. The power of this practice isn't only in what we do, but also in what we don't do: Core Restore is built on the deep (and very personal) understanding of what works for a body in pain, and what doesn't.
I've lived with chronic pain for the majority of my life. Having been born with underdeveloped hip sockets, I've spent more than 10 years rehabbing myself out of all sorts of pelvic pain, restrictions and discomforts.
Core Restore isn't some random program created somewhere by someone. It is built on the platform of extensive pain science research and movement studies. Behind each Core Restore class there is my own - often tedious - journey of learning, feeling and changing.
It is all practical and it all works.
