And just like that, it's January. Yet another year has come and gone.
Despite being 54, I haven’t given up on the idea that my energy, fitness, and nervous system's capacity to handle life will improve each year.
I know, I'm a little crazy like that.
I just finished reading Stacy Sims' book on menopause.
I found it particularly interesting that our cultural expectations and perceptions play a huge role in how well we age and fare through the menopausal transition.
Here is a quote by Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, a professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive health at Yale Medical Health:
"In societies where age is more revered, and the older women are wiser and better
women, menopausal symptoms are significantly less bothersome. Where older is not better, many women equate menopause with old age, and symptoms can be much more devastating."
From all the books I've read on aging so far, I gather that aging well depends on a few relatively simple
things: what we eat, how well and how much we move, and how we manage life stresses. Call me delusional, but I truly believe all these things can be continually tweaked to feel and do better. Of course, simple doesn't mean easy - sometimes I am more successful and other times less.
My
passion is and always has been helping people who struggle with pain. I don't exaggerate when I say, "There's always - ALWAYS! - something we can do to make things better!" I've experienced this myself; I've seen countless clients being amazed by how quickly we can make a difference with just a little bit of right tweaking.
My mission is to provide anyone who struggles with pain with every possible bit of guidance, support, research, advice, and solutions to feel better. There is SO MUCH we can do to improve movement strategies, find chronic pain relief, and manage the inevitable life-speed bumps and flare-ups.
Winter Yoga Session starts next week.
Join me on the mat if being better - and doing better - is on your wish list this year.
January is a great time to right-tweak your routine and start afresh!
