Hey ,
As promised, here’s a closer look at Satori’s spring happenings.
January was about moving forward gently.
Spring is the time to get up and at it.
Strength is on my mind these days!
For a while now, I’ve been acutely aware of how devastating muscle loss can be for women. All I can think of is, “Why did no one tell me this when I was younger, in my
thirties?” This is when, for most of us, muscle loss begins.
Recently, a large study was published in JAMA Network, a well-respected medical journal, that followed more than 5,400 women aged 63 to 99 for over 8 years. The study examined whether muscular strength predicts longevity and found clear results: stronger
women lived longer, regardless of the amount of aerobic exercise they did.
Why this makes
sense:
Strength is what we use to move through life, whether it is lifting groceries, climbing stairs or carrying our little ones. Strength closely reflects nervous system integrity, mitochondrial health, and hormonal balance. When strength begins to decline, it often signals system-wide metabolic decline.
Lower body strength is intimately linked to fall prevention and mobility. Falls are a major cause of disability and mortality in older women, so strong legs literally protect our independence.
If strength predicts survival and independence, then building and maintaining it at any age is a long term investment. Literally, like putting money in the bank - what is the cost of long term care these days...?
☀️Daytime☀️ CoreFit Class:
Naturally, strength is a focal point for the spring yoga session. So
much so that I added another class to the schedule - something I swore I’d never ever do again!
I had multiple requests for a daytime class. It took a bit of shuffling and shifting to make it happen, but finally the brain fog cleared, and it all came together last
week!
The newly added Core Fitness For Beginners class starts on Thursday, April 15, at 1:15 pm. It will run for 5 weeks, ending on May 14th.
