Welcome to BALL101!

Hey ,

Frost is in the air, and Xmas markets and shows are popping up all over the city.
Who has the time to read a looooooong ( did I mention long?) E-bit, even if it is about all important body parts and their alignment?

This is why this e-mail is short + sweet: I want to introduce you to some super easy tools that you can use on your own to manage stress, relieve pain and tension, and improve sleep.

Yoga therapy balls are an essential part of Satori self-care tool kit.

We learn how to use them early on in each yoga session so that there's a safety net for in-between classes. We then expand our ball strategy vocabulary as we go along, and especially if we working with a particular body area. For example, this week some classes are beginning to explore arm strengtheningĀ  - so of course we'll use yoga therapy balls to promote slide and glide within the arm and shoulder tissues.

We use yoga therapy balls in Pain Care Yoga, too: rolling is a great way to improve proprioception and brain-body mapping. (by the way, body mappingĀ  + scanning is a pain care yoga challenge of this week - more on that on FB)

Most of my private clients enjoy ball work as well.
Some, especially those living with fibromyalgia, begin their day with 5-10 minutes of ball on the wall as a way to loosen up the tight connective tissue. Others - often folk with insomnia, restlessness or anxiety - roll atĀ  bedtime to calm the nervous system down.

In the end - and this, perhaps, is the most important piece of them all - self-care tools are incredibly empowering. Knowing that you can help yourself - any time, anywhere - is the most potent benefit of our practice.

I hope you enjoy working with yoga therapy balls as much as we do!

See you on the mat!

Julia + Satori Team

P.S. The balls that we use are made out of pliable, grippy rubber that is especially formulated for soft tissue release. Tennis ball will do in a pinch, although it lacks traction and isn't as pliable. Golf balls and solid wooden implements can be just plain dangerous.
