FALL 2017 | Friday Round Up | Week 13 | Integration Week #3

Published: Fri, 12/01/17

Hey ,

Happy first day of December!

First week of each month is integration week.

Initially, integration week was designed as a way to put a pause on new info, to absorb, appreciate, and maybe even celebrate how far you've come.

Over the last few weeks the importance of integration really dawned on me.

Integration week is more than just a simple pause, it is a reminder - and a re-MINDER - to slow down, to put the breaks on, and to find a time and a space to be, to reconnect with your very center.

In our day and age, when it often feels like the time is running away, and there are never ever enough hours in the day, the importance of such a pause cannot be overestimated.

I just finished reading - yet again! - Buddha by Deepak Chopra, so I'll close with a quote:

"Can you be still, without thinking?
Don't talk to yourself.
Just breathe gently."

November is Balance + Fall Prevention Month at Satori.
Here is what we've covered off-the-mat:

Are you cheating yourself out of balancing?:

We already talked a whole bunch about balance (and balancing):

~ last week we discussed neck tension and its contribution to balancing. We also discussed ways of balancing our balance organs - such as eyes, for example.

~ the week before we talked about tension and how tension can disrupt nerve communication and alter our sense of our body in space (and of course, balance).

Today we will turn things upside down (well, almost!), and talk about feet and walking.

PAIN CARE YOGA: Pain and Balance - What's The Connection?:

What's the relationship between pain and balance?

Imagine the stress of falling down the stairs:
Your hold your breath, your heart is beating wildly as adrenal glands dump stress chemicals into your blood stream; you automatically brace for the impact, shortening and tightening your muscles.

PAIN CARE YOGA: BALANCED RESPONSE, or what to do when things fly off the handle:

Last week we talked about the relationship between pain and balance.

But balance isn't just a physical notion - there's more to it than that.

This week I'd like to talk about a balanced response to a stimuli, or, as we called it in Restorative Yoga training, "an appropriate response - action."

PAIN CARE YOGA: Understanding NEUROTAG:

November is BALANCE + FALL PREVENTION month here at Satori.

In the last few weeks we've addressed balance {and the lack of thereof} both on and off the mat.

Today I want to introduce you to the concept of NEUROTAG. This will shed light on how pain can hijack different centers in our brain thus altering our balance - both physical and mental / emotional.
