CORE RESTORE | Lesson 6 | Timeline + Integration

Published: Fri, 02/16/18

Hey ,

This is our very last e-Lesson for this session.
I have created the "reader's digest" to help you navigate the material we've explored thus far (scroll below).

It is also an integration week when we put together everything that we've practiced on the mat in the last 5 weeks to test our ability to stabilize in unfamiliar movements.
Boy, that was a fun class!

A few words about integration....

The most common question I get at the end of the session is:

"How long does it take before I get better at this?"

complemented by,

"Should I stay for the next set of Core Restore classes or move to a different class?"

As far as the first question goes - I can only speak from my own experience.

I've mentioned to many of you in private conversations it took me well over two years to really understand + embody the concepts that I now teach.

At first, the learning was purely intellectual - I could make sense of what it is I was trying to achieve, but lacked body awareness to isolate the movements and pin point whether I was getting them right or wrong.

At about 1 year mark the light bulbs started to go on - not for all of the movements and not all at once, but rather gradually, slowly flickering in as I studied and practiced more.

I am still very much in the process of learning and figuring things out - especially for more complex and integrative movements - and this is why (those of you who have been in Core Restore for a while know this about me!) every time I present this material, I teach it differently.

What I know for a fact is this: my body's ability to load - as in tolerate more movement, more different movement, and more weight load has radically improved since I stepped on this path.  Things that I couldn't even imagined being possible just  2 - 3 years ago (like hiking 16 KM with 40 pounds on my back in under 4 hours) are now a regular part of my life.

And the second question - this is where your inner guidance comes in.
The only suggestion I might have here is to listen more to the body, and less to the head.
Drop me a line if you need help navigating this terrain!

Here is what we've covered in the last month and a half:

Lesson 1: Understanding Flexion and Extension

Welcome to your first Core Restore e-lesson.

Our goals are lofty; our time together time is short. Weekly follow up e-mails are designed to supplement your mat practice; to expand your understanding of core; and to deepen your knowledge and felt sense of the body.

Lesson 2: Stress, Muscle Recruitment, and Movement

Many Satori students have mentioned that their weekly yoga class is the only chance they get to slow down and relax.

Is that true for you, too?

This is why this week I wanted to address stress and how it changes our movement strategies.

Lesson 3: Pressure and Stability ( + a video!)

So far, we've talked (mostly I talked!) about several factors contributing to our stability.
None of them is as important as our breath.

Watch the video to get the visual of full - body breath movement ( I had to put it at the bottom of the e-mail cause it scrambled the layout otherwise:)

Lesson 4: Gluts to Psoas - The Functional Pair

This week our theme has been "front to back," as in "what is the relationship between the front and the back of my body, and more specifically, between the muscles at the front and the back of my hip joint?"

Before we dive in, let's review what we already have covered so far:

Lesson 5: Where the Hip Flexors Live:

This weeks we really, really - and I mean REALLY - focused on opening the fronts of the hips  for hip extensions.

Let's start with a bit of anatomy.
I promise I'll make it super short and finish waaay before your eyes glaze over...

The most common hip flexor question  - even if it isn't spoken - is this:

"I kinda know where my hip flexors are - right there, in the front of my hips, but you keep talking about rib cage and spine... What the heck?"
