Today's follow up is a dynamic-trio of important items that can help you get the most of your yoga practice - both in and outside the class.
Included are:
~ some logistical items ( ball orders, in-class book borrowing, etc.)
~ links to on-line curriculum for Core Restore and Pain Care classes
~ Yoga Question Of The Week - that's where we are going to start today and for as long as I have your questions coming.
Yoga Q of the Week:
I know that your time is precious. A big - HUGE - thank you to all those of you who took time to fill out
Introduce Yourself QR and asked some excellent yoga questions.
This week's Q is one of the most often yoga questions ever asked - even though most of us just let it pass silently...
Q: How do I avoid tooting during a class?!
A: you can't!
Yoga does that to everyone - at least once! It's nothing to be embarrassed about - producing gas is one of normal human body functions.
It is generally recommended that we practice on an empty stomach; this makes it easier to move and also reduces the tooting potential.
And on a side note, I've met a teacher once who got all of her students to yell out "HOORAY" whenever someone tooted in class ...
Class Resources:
- Ball Orders:
I have just placed the order for Yoga Therapy Balls (the rubber balls in the mesh tote) and Core Balls ( the larger purple ball). I anticipate the order to be here sometime next week and I will have some at the studio for sale. Costs are:
Yoga Therapy Ball set (2 balls in the mesh bag) - 25$ + GST
Core Ball ( 1 ball ) - 20$ + GST
Payment can be made by cash, check or any major credit card.
Are you super - duper serious about getting the most out of your yoga therapy balls? Come join me on Saturday, February 2, 1 - 3 PM for
Ball + Yin - Neck and Shoulder Clinic:
Items on the agenda:
~ TMJ relief
~ Neck + Shoulders release + relax + hydrate
~ Handy treats - great for hands working with keyboard + mouse.
I'm super-duper serious about helping your hands + neck + shoulders feel a whole lot better (perma-headaches are the WORST in my books!), so sign up for the clinic and I'll take 10$ off the price of a ball set.
How does that sound?
- There are several Meditation and Ayurveda booklets at the studio - you are welcome to borrow them to learn more about these modalities.
I will also include more information about these as we continue to move along.
- On-line curriculum:
Some of you are already aware that Pain Care and Core Restore classes come with an on-line curriculum. The need for the on-line component came from the same place as these weekly round up e-mails: there's simply not enough time in each class for necessary pain / movement education and coaching.
Over the last several years I've written a number of resource articles to help students in these classes understand what is happening in their bodies, and why we are doing what we are doing on the mat.
We (my super-hero virtual assistant and myself) are currently in the process of organizing all of these written resources into an on-line database - Satori Yoga-Versity - with the goal to have the complete structure set up by the end of March.
Here are the links to the first set of lessons:
Pain Care Yoga | e-Lesson 1 | Pain As An Alarm System
Core Restore | e-Lesson 1 | Moving From The Hip
There's a list of downloadable resources there as well for your convenience. We will be adding to it as we go along - I'm currently working on handouts with images!
Last, but not least: you don't have to belong to a certain class to access these materials. Pain management info is just as relevant to you if you attend Ball + Yin or a Corrective Movement class, and core stability is just as essential to reducing back pain as it is to better performance.
