Welcome to Fall.
Weather is having an identity crisis, and with that comes the inevitable...
FLARE UPS
I don't know about you, , but for me these two words encompass everything that I don't want to feel...
Definitely pain - pain that comes outta nowhere and happens in odd places.
Like my elbow bone... What's up with that?
As a side dish there's also disrupted sleep, brain fog, irritability, frustration, fear - in other words the whole grand enchilada.
I had all the best intentions on writing about these pesky flare ups and how to keep on moving when the body feels cranky. But..... I realized how much material I have to go though (3 big books! Eeeks!) before I attend the Explain Pain course this coming Friday.
So instead I thought I'd share words that got stuck with me as I revisited the up-coming course material. These words have reminded me why I got attracted to the Explain Pain framework in the first place. In a nut shell - it is a holistic full-person approach, something that I've come to believe without a shadow of a doubt:
Our pain situation is about much more than the tests, diagnoses and labels that we've been given. It is also about the rest of our lives, and about things that might be going on at the same time as our pain.
For example:
change in sleep patterns
sweating changes
muscle spasms
odd feelings in the body
not thinking straight
having a short fuse
feeling tired all the time
worried more than usual
relationship strained
Here is a video that explains the mechanism of persistent pain. I've shared it a few times in the past, and today it's as current as ever.
