Wow! It feels like forever since I've written a post! How is it going?
This COVID thing has stretched out for way longer than I could ever imagined... It's been almost a year and we are still yoga-ing on Zoom.
Pandemic fatigue is real, and the unpredictability adds insult to the injury...
So how are you coping? What helps you get through your days?
Like many others, I got sick and tired of all the ups and downs of this pandemic no-fun ride. I tuned out the news, grew out my hair, and decided to focus on what I can control: building a wholesome pain care program that marries movement science to pain science, so the two can work together happily ever after. I think I might call it the UP Program - short for Understand Pain.
Creating and teaching January's Understanding Flare UP's class was me cautiously dipping my toes into this new project and trying it on for a size...
Crafting my first-ever presentation was scary and exciting and wonderful. Designing a slideshow, as it turns out, is a very intensive mental process... and (who knew!) I have a one-track mind. I can either focus on crafting the best UP program, or write bi-weekly articles and FB posts. I just can't do both, at least not sustainably.
So, in the light of this recent discovery, and in the spirit of building a sustainable and nervous system - friendly business, I'm putting my proverbial pen down and taking a break from writing bi-weekly e-mails till the time is right.
This, too, feels like testing the waters - I've operated with "you must write at least one post a week" mentality for such a long time....
I want to give myself time and space to focus on what feels really important right now: studying the workings of the nervous system; improving my movement teaching skills; learning to build strength training programs for folk who live with pain; deepening my understanding of how mindfulness interfaces with pain science; experimenting more with motivational interviewing; and most importantly, fitting all these puzzle pieces together into one wholesome, awesome UP Program. And yes, teaching
yoga, of course!
I will still update you on all upcoming classes, and I am also here to answer any pain science and movement related questions -
just drop me a line!
Here is a pain tidbit for today (borrowed from NOI group) - I just couldn't resist:
Next time you are talking about your sore knee and someone, perhaps it is your health professional, says ‘It’s just old age’ or you think that yourself, then ask them (or yourself) ‘is my right knee older than the rest of me?’
See you on the screen - and beyond,
