A good stretch?
Peace?
Harmony?
Laughter?
A couple of weeks ago I’ve revisited the movie “ Eat, Pray, Love”.
Reading the book, I lived Liz’ story. I cried when she cried, I laughed with her. I chewed on Italian words and floated in my meditations. Lake the most exquisite fragrance, the book had rich, eloquent layers of delivery. High, effervescent notes of emotional finery… Muskiness of spiritual foundation, that was reassuring, not overpowering. And underneath, there was the earthy groundness of someone who had lived it all…
The movie “ Eat, Pray, Love” has the stunning backdrop of Rome, India, Bali…
Beautiful actors, mouthwatering food, soulful music…
Yet, I have struggled to believe, to find the depth of intimate emotional connection - something I have relished reading the book. NO OOMPH!
There is a reason we are drawn to the masters of art – literature, music, cinema, or ballet. Maria Callas, Nicolai Tscescaridze, Denis Matsuev, Anna Netrebko…( videos are here). They don’t just put on a show; they have a tremendous power to evoke the full range of human emotion. How often do you get the goose bumps during the performance of that caliber? And how often do you feel inspired leaving the theater? In many languages, including Russian and English, inspired means “ connected to spirit”…
When it comes to Yoga, though, we so easily trade the potential depth of our practice for the shell of purely physical encounter. We discount the richness of the 5,000-year-old science and philosophy down to the perfect view from the studio, hard wood floors, tight Lulu Lemon pants or flawless bodies, robbing ourselves of the beauty, complexity of experience and incredible life lessons yoga practice can deliver.
Masterfully designed yoga class, just like the well-written book or the performance of the art masters, delivers an organic flow, a sense of natural unfoldment and intimacy with yourself, joy, liveliness and ease. It goes far beyond stretching and strengthening the major muscle groups. It clears the emotional static and mental fuzz that disconnects us from the sparkle of our spiritual essence. It reminds us that even in the out – of – control whirlwind of our every day life, peace and stillness are only a thought away. Excavating the debris of old believes and movement patterns, it inspires us to reach to the heights of our human potential.
What do you want from your Yoga?
Look in a clear mountain mirror -
See the Beautiful Ancient Warrior
And the Divine elements
You always carry inside.
