Hey Julia,
As a continuation of my earlier post, I'm soooOOOOooo thankful for the
emphasis you put on alignment and self-awareness when you're
facilitating a class. It's expanded my mind way beyond what any sequence
of poses could do on their own, and I'm loving my body (and life!) more
and more every time I practice.
When I first came to your
classes I was anxious about the slow pace and missed doing the
challenging poses I'd gotten used to from power yoga. Whereas in those
classes I could easily measure progress (I counted chaturangas like
trophies), in your classes the benefits were a lot less tangible. It's
interesting to see how much my feelings have changed since then.
The more I learn to actually feel what my body wants instead of
over-analyzing, exercising blind discipline, and listening to someone
else tell me what to do, I'm inclined to practice less and explore more.
It's incredibly empowering. By actively listening and slowing down, I
can finally be happy in my own skin and enjoy the present for all that
it holds (regardless of how many chaturangas I can do)!
I know I have so much to learn still, but I feel today was a milestone.
I never thought I'd say that about breathing fully and moving my head
1/2 way to my shoulder! The realization that so much knowledge can be
contained in such a simple, small movement suggests that this process
never ends. What fascinating things we are!
Thank you, Julia,
for being so compassionate to all of us throughout this crazy
yoga-inspired journey. I'm ridiculously happy to know you.
Love,
