Where does your stability come from?
Many of us tense up, hold our breath, harden our eyes, or weigh ourselves down by perpetually snacking on sweets.
It has been difficult enough challenging the traditional paradigm of "six pack", "rock hard abs" and "buns of steel" as a source of stability. Yet, I'd like to take it one step further - if I am rocking the boat, might as well do a good job of it.
To me, the core is not just a physical concept; it is a multifaceted phenomenon that permeates every level of our being. Our language reflects that; we say " At the core of my being..." or " Down to my very core..." Surely we don't mean "Down to my washboard abs?"
Our mental and emotional core is intimately connected with our ability to find the physical core. If you are feeling half a bubble of center emotionally, it will be nearly impossible to find your inner corset and establish your core stability. Reverse that, and it becomes clear that if your primary means of physical stabilization are body - wide tension or holding the breath, these same patterns will be present in how you stabilize yourself mentally and emotionally. That's when limiting habitual patterns of thinking and feeling come into play.
