Satori Yoga & Healing Arts
Dear ,
Welcome to November edition of Satori e-news. In this newsletter we'll continue our October conversation about busyness; visit a group yoga class and check out newest schedule updates; chat about podcast recordings for one-on-one instruction and learn how to give our tense shoulders a much - needed break. So, if you have been hanging out with Satori for a while - welcome back, and if you are new to this community - welcome aboard, nice to have you with us. Pull up a chair, grab a cup of tea and enjoy!
Busy! Busy! BUSY!
Last month we shined a light on a true cost of busyness. Pull on that thread, and it becomes clear that busyness doesn't just live in our calendars and schedulers, it has permeated the very fabric of our lives, affecting the way we think, eat, move, interact, raise our children and connect to our significant others. As Roma eloquently put, "One of the highest costs of busyness is relationship.  When one is so mentally consumed with activities (read job, over-commitment to anything really), one is never fully present to another person.  What I've found is that intimacy is lost and soul-mates become room-mates.  It doesn't happen all at once, but busyness eventually erodes all that really matters in a relationship - presence to one another in love."
Many of us long for slower, gentler flow of life; deeper connections; more time to do the things we love. As this year draws to an end and the hectic holiday season approaches, create space and cultivate stillness by examining what is hiding behind your need to be busy and assessing the collateral damage of " time-sickness".
And BREATHE...
Busy! Busy! Busy!

What's Brewing In Your Yoga Class?
Satori strives to promote awareness in everything you do. So, before you read any further (and hey, thanks for reading this far, by the way), close your eyes and take a few deep, nasal breaths. Notice any sensation of tightness, closure or contraction that is present in your body. Gently trickle your breath into the area that feels tight or restricted, along with the thoughts of loving kindness (there are no "stupid" knees, shoulders or back; pain is the only way your body can interact with you - please, pause, and listen). Slowly open your eyes. Shall we move along?

If you shoulders' are still floating somewhere in the vicinity of your ears, try this:

In an easy seating posture, place your right hand on your left shoulder, between the tip of your shoulder and where your neck begins; grasp the whole trapezius muscle in your hand; be gentle, but firm. Let the left arm hang down and shrug the left shoulder (tiny, little shrugs, as though testing the movement). Now turn the shoulder very slowly from front to back, making small circles. Avoid using your elbow to assist the movement, and hold your trapezuis tightly, so it plays as little role in the movement as possible. Repeat 5 to 7 times; let the shoulder go and both arms hang down freely. Which shoulder feels more " oiled"? Repeat on the other side.

Bright Idea
A Bright New Idea For One-On-One Consultations

A shout out to all students enjoying private yoga classes - would you be interested in MP3 recordings of your sessions? I have finally found a system that is easy to use, yet provides crisp, clear quality of sound. It is a bit of an investment, so I want to hear from you before I go all out. The MP3 recording will add 5$ to the cost of private appointment; you will have a choice to have your session recorded or not. Please let me know what you think, so I can make an informed decision.
Important One-on-One Consultation Reminders
Would you like your private sessions to continue in January? Please remember to re-book early!
Looking to schedule your first one-on-one? Add you name to the waiting list and be the first to know when space becomes available.
