Satori e-news: HELLO YOGA LOVERS
E-mail not looking beautiful? Click here for pretty on-line version
Hello current and future Satori yogis,

Recently I received an e-mail that started with " Hello Lovers." Sure got my attention! After due consideration, however, I decided to stick to a more conservative greeting. So, good morning to you all, beautiful people!

We are into the last week of August - how did those summer days slip through our fingers again?  - and this is the time of year when many of us start looking forward to fall routine, pot roasts (vegetarian or not), full-bodied organic red wine, and, of course, yoga classes. While this is not your official " Fall Newsletter" quite yet (it will arrive into your mailbox September 15th), I had a few updates and things to share. So I put together "end of the summer" e-blast to welcome back familiar faces and greet Satori newcomers as well.

In this spur-of-the- moment e-news you will find registration links to your fave yoga classes - so you don't have to search for them through Satori website.  There's also little something my (highly talented and extraordinarily patient) team and I have been working on this summer, and I can't wait to share this project with you. Shall we?

End of the summer EVENT CALENDAR:

YOGA CLASSES:

~Fall Yoga Classes
Fall registrations are on, and you will find schedule and registration links here. Yup, I know that GP is a last minute town, but this is not the time to procrastinate. At the time of writing this e-mail Beginner Hatha class on Tuesdays is already bursting at the seams, and the other ones are getting full too.

~Summer Yoga Classes (or what's left of them)

There are still 2 good weeks of summer yoga classes. Join me and the handful of keen yogis who showed up for summer yoga no matter how beautiful it was outside. Classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Schedule and more information.

~ Private Consultations are on-going. Schedule yours here.

The OFFICE Project
Is your office team constantly complaining about sore shoulders, stiff neck and carpal tunnel symptoms?
Last spring a group of forward - thinking office workers persuaded me to teach a chair yoga class, and pretty soon chair yoga was a regular Satori feature. What started in a yoga studio quickly spilled out into the office environment. Throughout summer months the lovely ladies at Happy Trails RV have been enjoying lunch - hour chair yoga. Their positive feedback has been so encouraging that my team and I decided to design a program to help office professionals, just like yourself, feel better before, during and after work. This program benefits:

Repetitive stress injuries of the hand, wrist and elbow
Neck pain and stiffness
Shallow breathing
Tension headaches
Carpal tunnel syndrome

  HERE IS A TASTE:

BETTER-THAN-A-COFFEE-BREAK yoga pose

Place your chair (without rollers or locked rollers) near your desk so that you can easily lean forward.
Sit at the edge of your chair with your feet flat on the floor.
Lean forward and place your folded arms on the desk so you feel supported.
Rest your forehead on your arms. Tuck your chin slightly toward your chest.
Close your eyes and enjoy! Practice for 2 to 3 minutes.
Once you are finished come up slowly keeping your chin tucked in to protect your back.

SHOULDER ROLLS

If you have hunched shoulders or rounded upper back you might have been told to "stand up straight" or " pull your shoulders back". Unfortunately those fixes only last a very short time and do more harm than good.
TRY SHOULDER ROLLS INSTEAD:
Move one shoulder as far forward, upward, and backward as you can without moving your body significantly.  Feel the shoulder blade glide gently down along your spine and toward your pelvis. Repeat 5 to 10 times, then relax you arm.
How does this shoulder feel? You might find that the " worked shoulder" is more relaxed, or it settles further back then usual without you holding it there.

NECK RELEASE

Test the range of movement: turn your head to the left and to the right. How far can you go on each side?
Now use your hand to hold the muscles at the back of your neck - you want to have a firm, but gentle grip. Relax your jaw and tongue.

Hold the muscles at the back of your neck and do the following movements:
Move your head up and down, as if you are saying yes.
Now move your head side to side - as if you are saying no.
Switch hands if necessary. Move your head in small circles - as if you are trying to draw small circles with your nose.
Release your hand and test the range of motion again. Are there any changes?

WANT MORE NECK & SHOULDER FREEDOM?

You will find these and other easy, effective neck and shoulder movements in CHAIR YOGA IN 10 - our very first video podcast. Watch the preview and download yours here.
Ready to take a plunge and register for a class or, maybe, bring chair yoga to your office? Drop me a line or give me a call - I would love to hear from you.
