FALL 2016 YOGA SESSION - week one Friday Round Up

Published: Fri, 09/16/16

Hey everyone,

There were a few changes in our class names and numbers; I am re-sending week one follow so that we all are on the same page.

Here goes!

Welcome to Friday Round-up – a weekly class follow up e-mail that breaks down and explores in a more detail some of the concepts / alignment principles that we employ in class and on the mat. Beyond that, it is my hope that Friday Round-ups will encourage and help you build your own personal home practice – yoga is that much more effective when practiced on a daily basis.

First week of classes can often feel scrambled and overwhelming, especially if you are just starting with yoga classes. Here are the first few foundational pieces to help you get settled and feel more grounded in your next class.

This week (and for the next few weeks to follow) we start each class with a formal 10 POINT RELAXATION PRACTICE. I have attached written instructions for you if you wish to practice this on your own.

10 POINT RELAXATION PRACTICE can be quick and simple when you short on time, or detailed and nuanced whenever you have time on hand to work on body awareness. (I seem to often find time for a longer practice right between 2 and 3 am, and it works like magic.)

Starting next week (and probably for another two or so) we are going to focus on yoga therapy ball work. I like to introduce students to yoga therapy balls early in the session so that they have easy to do self-care pieces that they can take home. More on that next week!

Some of you have asked about prop orders - bolsters, straps, yoga bricks and such. I will be placing the order by 20th of September; a separate e-mail will be sent out with the prop order form early next week.

Enjoy your weekend!
